"King Richard's Big Night" is the tenth episode of the seventh season of Happy Days.
Synopsis[]
At a college party, Richie is crowned King of the Delta Gammas. However, right before he makes an acceptance speech, college bully Bullfrog slips a pill into Richie's ginger ale. As Richie starts to make his speech, he suddenly loses his inhibitions completely. He cruelly mocks Potsie and Ralph, hits on Potsie's girlfriend, instigates an argument between Ralph and a girl he likes, destroys Chachi's drum set, and humiliates his girlfriend, Lori Beth. Later that night, he joyrides around on Fonzie's motorcycle in his underwear and flippers, causing damage to both the Cunningham yard and the motorcycle in the process, much to Fonzie's chagrin, Howard and Marion's shock, and Joanie's amusement. Before anyone can question Richie's erratic behavior any further, he passes out, and his parents put him to bed.
The next morning, Richie is back to his old self. Howard and Marion question him about what happened the night before, and Richie mentions being crowned King of the Delta Gammas, and making an acceptance speech. However, he has no recollection of anything beyond that, so he assumes not much else happened afterwards, much to his parents' confusion. With that Richie heads to Arnold's, to "mingle with his royal subjects" where he finds everyone there, is furious with him for his behavior the night before. Lori Beth rejects him, Ralph tells him repeatedly to get lost, Potsie tells him off for not even having the decency to apologize, and Chachi dumps a milkshake into Richie's shirt pocket. It all comes to a head, when Fonzie arrives, prepared to attack Richie, for the damage to his motorcycle. But when Richie sincerely claims he has no idea what any of this is all about, Fonzie stops himself, realizing something isn't adding up.
Fonzie privately questions Richie about the night before, where again, and Richie still does not recall anything that happened after he made his acceptance speech. But he manages to recall that he drank a ginger-ale, served by fraternity brother Bullfrog, right before his acceptance speech, where everything else became a blur. The two head to the fraternity house, where, after Bullfrog taunts Richie, Fonzie eventually forces him to confess he spiked Richie's ginger-ale at the party. Fonzie is outraged, at this, as he claims Bullfrog's prank could've gotten Richie killed, while he was joyriding on the motorcycle, (and it wasn't that long ago that Richie nearly was killed in a motorcycle accident). The other fraternity brothers are outraged as well and declare Bullfrog is out of the fraternity.
Back at Arnold's Richie apologizes to everyone, for whatever havoc he might have caused the night before, pleading that one bad night shouldn't be the end of everything. Everyone eventually agrees to give him another chance, and once again, all is well in Milwaukee.
