"We're in the Army, Now: Part 1" is the ninth episode of the fifth season of Laverne & Shirley, also the 95th overall episode in the series. Co-written by Judy Pioli and Jeff Franklin, and directed by Joel Zwick, the episode premiered on ABC-TV on November 15, 1979.
Synopsis[]
The girls enlist in the Army. First of two-part story.
Storyline[]
Denied promotions at work, the girls resign and join the army, expecting a new level of respect. The boot camp sergeant is nice but when assignments are given, they get Sgt. Plout. A regular Army woman. Was joining the military a major mistake?

- This episode was the first of a two-part episode story arc.
- During basic training, Sgt. Plout utters "I haven't seen anything like this since the night the lights went out in Georgia." Actress Vicki Lawrence had a 1973 hit on the popular music charts called "The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia".
- This episode is the first out of five times that comedy Legend Vicki Lawrence guest starred.
- The title is based on the World War II standard "You're In The Army Now" performed by Abe Lyman and his Californians.
